Bubbles - Opening Scene Storyboards
Storyboards for the opening scene of an Bubbles, a 3D animated short film from Beaker Studios. Bubbles is a science fiction film about science, discovery, disability and acceptance, following Sophie, a young Martian scientist, struggling to prove herself in her field and find a place in the world.
Created for my internship with Beaker Studios in the summer of 2019.

she looks offstage,
takes a deep breath,
and returns her attention to her phone.
she's watching a sitcom transmitted from Earth.
she's obviously nervous.
video plays of the Earth sitcom.
it consumes her attention,
and calms her nerves.
she looks back to the stage,
and she is being introduced by the head speaker of the panel.
view from offstage as Sophie is summoned to come speak.
she stands up,
and makes her way to the stage.
Sophie finds her place in the panel,
she takes it.
stage lights are uncomfortably bright.
as Sophie and her findings are being introduced,
her oxygen diffuser starts giving a low battery warning.
she notices, concerned,
but can't do anything about it, as she's now being invited to speak.
She approaches the microphone,
and looks out over the audience.
They all seem supportive and excited, but there's so many of them.
Sophie is overcome with stage fright.
At the same time,
the battery on her diffuser finally dies.
Close up on her eyes shifting nervously as she starts to sweat.
Her smartphone (its own character) shows concern.
without her diffuser, Sophie cannot take a full breath to speak.
Her view of the audience
begins to distort.
Sophie's composure cracks,
and she can't bring herself to say anything at all.
The panel is getting irritated with her inability to speak.
She resigns herself,
steps back from the podium,
and flees the presentation center.
